How do I find information about _____?

The quickest place to look is the homepage. Not everthing is listed on the homepage though, so if you don't see what you're looking for there, try using the search bar on the left. Click "search" for a more exhaustive search. ("Go" is for when you know the exact pagename.)

If you still can't find what you're looking for, we probably don't have it yet. See Resources for other websites and printed materials that may be helpful.

How to I edit a page?

Glad you asked! The first step is to click "Edit this page" in the sidebar. (Most pages you can edit, though a very small number are protected, e.g. the homepage, and say "View source" instead.)

The next step is to add, change or remove whatever text you had in mind. On most pages there will be some code-like characters, used for creating links, etc. – but you don't have to pay too much attention to these if you don't want to. If necessary someone will come along later and neaten up the code.

If you'd like learn, however, here is a crash course in wiki code, or "markup":

  • To make text italic, surround it in double apostrophes. For example, Fox's ''Journal'' will appear as: "Fox's Journal. For bold, use triple apostrophes.
  • Double brackets like [[this]] create internal links, that is, links to other Quakerpedia pages. For example, [[Margaret Fell]] will appear as Margaret Fell.
  • To create a link to an external website, first start with one bracket, then the URL, then a space, then the text that will make up the link, and finally another bracket. For example, [http://qhpress.org Quaker Heritage Press] will appear as the link Quaker Heritage Press.

Remember to click "Save" when you're done of course. For more advanced instructions, see Editing.

How do I create a new page?

Another great question. You create a new page by first navigating to the location of the page you want. One easy way is to type it into the address bar of your web browser, like "http://en.quakerpedia.org/wiki/Simplicity testimony". Another way is to enter it into the search bar and click "Go".

Finally, you can click on any red link you see, if the link is for the page you want to start.

Once you're at the right location, click "Start this page". From here it's the same as editing an existing page. Hit "Save" when you're done.

How can I make comments about a page?

Each page has a "talk" page associated with it, which you can find the link to in the sidebar. Click on that link, and add your comments to the page that appears.

Where can I ask another question?

If you have any questions not answered here, feel free to add them, well, almost anywhere! This page, or this page's talk page, or the community portal.

If it's a general-purpose wiki question, you might be able to find answer in the the help pages at Wikipedia.

Finally, if you like you can email the founder Zach A directly.
